Last week the NFL announced the schedule for 2011. Let’s pretend that we’ll see all 17 weeks because I have a few thoughts.
Thursday - The season kicks off with the Saints vs. Packers, the past two Super Bowl winners. I like the match up but I still think it’s lame that the season opens…
Three NBA playoff teams won on their home court Tuesday night by an average of 23 points, which illuminates the Knicks’ collapse, in which they dropped two games at MSG by an average of 15 points. And got a standing ovation at the end. Embarrassing.
Remember one of the greatest April Fools Day pranks ever pulled, a George Plimpton article in Sports Illustrated entitled “The Curious Case of Sidd Finch,” which was published on April 1, 1985. The piece, about a newly discovered, larger-than-life baseball player who could supposedly throw a fastball 168 miles per hour, was presented as fact by the mag and fooled people across the nation for several days.
Of course a clever person could have figured out the hoax from the first line - “He’s a pitcher, part yogi and part recluse. Impressively liberated from our opulent life-style, Sidd’s deciding about yoga—and his future in baseball” - with the first letter of every word spelling out “Happy April Fools Day.”
I still have this issue of SI.
March 31, 2010: Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Lakers, 110-82
If you missed last nights Los Angeles Lakers vs. Dallas Mavericks matchup, you missed a good, drama-filled game. Peep the video above to check out the fights and altercations between the western conference teams.
First, a fight ensued after Mavs player Jason Terry flagrantly shoved Steve Blake out of bounds. The two were head-to-head ready to fight as many Laker players including Brendan Haywood, and Matt Barnes jumped into the fight.
Barnes also has his own altercation with Mavs assistant coach Terry Stotts. Stotts attempted to restrain Barnes after the incident. Barnes wasn’t having that, and he shoved Stotts onto the Mavs bench.
Barnes, Blake, Haywood, and Terry were all ejected from last night’s game.
Oh, and did I mention a Lakers fan attempted to rush the Mavs bench?!?
Whewww… what a game!!
